Ad Network Instances
Click here, to begin creating instances.
Creating Instances
As part of the set-up process for your Placement, you can define Ad Network Instances and arrange them in order of preference within the Console.
Creating an Instance
Once you have configured mediated networks, you can easily add mediated network instances to your placement configuration.
Before you begin to configure your instance, make sure you have first added placements for the ads in your app. For details of how to do this, click here.
You must also enable mediated networks by adding networks' credentials, in the Mediated Networks section.
To configure an Instance, follow these steps:
- Login to the Fyber Console and select the app for which you want to add instances
- Next to the relevant placement from the placement list, click Add Instances
- Enter the details of the Instance:
- Instance Name - The internal name of the instance in the Fyber Console and used in reporting
- Mediated Network - The network for which you are setting up the instance
Note
If you can't find the relevant network, it is likely that you have not yet set it up. For details, click here.
- CPM - Select the CPM Price Model for the instance - can be either Auto or Manual. See further details below in the Auto CPM section.
- Instance ID - Taken from the dashboard of the selected network. For a detailed guide on how to retrieve parameters per network click here and navigate to the relevant network guide.
- When finished, click Save Instance.
- The Instance you have configured is shown in the list under the relevant placement.
Auto CPM
The FairBid Auto CPM relies on actual paid CPMs by the Instance in the last 30 days. Using this data, the algorithm produces the most accurate CPM prediction to position the Instance in the waterfall to ensure maximal revenues. By default, Auto CPM is selected.
When creating a new Instance, it is recommended to leave the Auto CPM box checked and set Manual CPM prices for the Instance's top countries to be used while Auto CPM prediction ramps up. Leaving the Auto CPM box checked while Manual CPMs are in place enables FairBid to automatically move from the entered Manual CPM to the Auto CPM prediction method. This occurs once sufficient data is gathered for the algorithm, to make accurate predictions for that instance.
To enforce a manually predicted CPM price, define it on the Manual CPM List and uncheck Auto CPM (however, this is not recommended).
To set Manual CPM prices for your top countries, follow these steps:
- Search for a country or a frequently used country group
- Enter a price for the selected country
- Click Add
Note
The Rest of the World price of $0.01 is automatically created after adding prices for specific countries. If no country is selected, a manual price of $0.01 is applied worldwide
- Click X to save and return to the main screen
Quick Reporting Metrics
Next to each instance, you can find data of selected reporting metrics that relate to the actual performance of that instance. Using the given metrics, you can easily gain insights into the health of the placement in terms of how well it performs and its revenue contribution.
An explanation of each metric is provided in its tooltip. You can sort the displayed list of instances by each metric to enable a quick insights discovery or to manage the instances in the context of the different metrics such as revenue contribution, engagement, to response rate.
Instance Capping and Pacing
The Instance Setup page allows you to manage advanced settings of the Instance. To get to this page Click the three vertical dots at the end of the row and select Instance Setup.
The Instance Setup page allows you to manage the following settings:
Capping - Limit the number of impressions to be displayed by this Instance in a certain timeframe. Toggle the switch to display the settings and insert your choice of values.
Pacing - Set a limit of one ad display at most by this Instance in a certain timeframe. Toggle the switch to display the settings and insert your choice of values.
Instance Segmentation
Targeting by country - Choose a list of countries in which the instance will be active, or a list of countries in which it won’t. If a user generates an ad request from a country where the instance isn’t active, the instance is never called and therefore does not provide a fill.
Pay attention to use the Include/Exclude options carefully according to your targeting choice. Toggle the switch to display the settings and insert your choice of values.
Targeting by User Tracking Status - This option allows you to restrict the Instance depending on the decision made by the user with regard to allowing tracking. For iOS, It is based on Apple’s App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework and the availability of IDFA. For Android, It is based on the user's choice of whether to opt-out of Ads Personalization.
Use this advanced setting to create different waterfall setups for the same Placement. Each is targeted for different types of users - those who allow tracking them and those who do not.
When finished, click Save.
Best Practice Check
To create Placements in bulk, you can also use the CSV Upload tool. Click here for more information.
Activating or Deactivating an Instance
Follow these steps to activate or deactivate an instance.
- Toggle the switch to either activate or deactivate the instance.
Deleting an Instance
Follow these steps to delete an instance.
You are prompted to confirm if you want to delete the instance.
- Click Delete to remove the instance.
You can also sort your waterfall by switching to "Manual CPM" and setting the actual CPM value. Alternatively, you can use Manual Prioritization and prioritize network instances above the waterfall, regardless of their CPM.
Prioritizing Ad Networks
Once you have configured your placement, using the instructions here, follow the steps below to prioritize the order of the Ad Networks.
Ad Networks that have already been configured are displayed at the top of the dropdown menu.
Networks that have not yet been configured appear under New Demand.
If the credentials you enter are incorrect, you are presented with the following message, detailing the reason for the configuration failure:
- Enter the Ad Network Instance
Note
If you have not yet configured Mediated Networks, you must do so in order to add instances.
For details on creating Ad Network Instances, click the Mediated Networks tab above.
- Automatic CPM works using Fyber's price prediction algorithm
- Manual CPM uses the values entered manually
Note
For multiple instances with different prices, it is recommended to use Fixed CPM.
- Once you've finished configuring the instance, click Add.
Each configured Ad Network Instance appears, by default, under the Auto Optimized
- Click and drag the Ad Network you want to manually prioritize into the Manual Prioritization section
Important
Setting manual prioritization overrides all instances under Auto Optimized and is not available for Programmatic Mediation partners.
-
Rearrange the Instances in the Manual Prioritization section by dragging and dropping them in the order you want them to be prioritized.
-
Add additional instances, if required by clicking on Ad Network Instance.
The order set in the manual prioritization, is the order in which the instances are called, before moving to instances under the Auto Optimized section.
Note
Essentially, you can create multiple instances for each Ad Network and prioritize them in this section.
- Click the menu icon (three vertical dots) of each Ad Network to either Edit, Deactivate or Remove it.
Ad Networks (Instances) that are deactivated automatically move to the auto-optimization section. Clicking Remove, disconnects the Ad Network Instance from the Placement.
Waterfall Visualization
The Waterfall Visualization tool displays the actual order in which the waterfall Instances are called, together with the values predicted by Fyber’s Auto CPM algorithm if you have set Auto CPM as an Instance.
The Waterfall Vizualization takes into account:
- Settings of the Instance targeting
- The country from which the ad request is received
- The user’s tracking status (if the IDFA is available for iOS users, or if an Android user opted out of personalized ads).
To use the Waterfall Visualization feature:
- Click the three vertical dots at the end of the Placement row
- Click Waterfall Visualization to open the window
- Select a country
- Select the User Tracking Status
A simulation of the waterfall for the next ad request is displayed.
You have now successfully added and prioritized the ad networks (instances).
Auction Audit
Using the Auction Audit tool you can both sample and view real logs of auctions that have taken place within the last seven days for any of your FairBid Placements. The sampled auctions of the Placement are chosen at random according to the country and time you have selected.
The FairBid auction begins with running the waterfall and continues to the bidders’ auction that includes the Fyber Marketplace DSPs and the bidding mediated networks. The FairBid auction winner is the demand source that offered or was predicted to offer the highest CPM for the ad request.
Note
It may take up to 20 minutes for a change made in the Placement setup, to become active in live auctions.
To use the Audit Auction feature:
- Click the three vertical dots at the end of the Placement row
- Click Auction Audit to open the window
- Select the country you want from the Country field
- Select the Date of the auction
- Select the Hour of the auction
- Click Sample an Auction
The auction details are displayed.
By default, the first presented sample is of an auction that took place 24 hours ago for an ad request from the United States of America.
Change the filter values to sample auctions that have taken place on ad requests from different countries, days, and times. For each combination of country, date and time, you can sample up to 5 different auctions that have taken place.
To sample an additional auction using the same country and time combination, click Sample an Auction again.
A counter with the number of the currently displayed auctions out of the possible available auctions is displayed above the sample.
You can copy the sample content for further analysis of the auction together with your Fyber Account Manager.
